Phospholipid Fatty Acid Microbial Community Profiles from Soil

Phospholipid fatty acids (PLFAs) are membrane lipids created by organisms which can be used for microbial community profiling. They can be used as either a fingerprinting method, comparing overall similarities among communities, or to estimate biomass of particular microbial functional groups/guilds. The sum of PLFAs also estimates overall living microbial biomass. Soils were sampled in August in 2008, 2010-2013. In 2008 and 2013, soils were split by depth (0-10, 10-25 cm), while from 2010-2012 they were sampled to a single dept (0-15 cm).
