GLBRC081:GLBRC Agronomic Yields

This data set contains information about agronomic yields for the GLBRC Biofuel Cropping System Experiment, the Stover Removal Experiment and the Unfertilized/fertilized Experiment at Kellogg Biological Station and Arlington and also for the GLBRC Scale-up experiment and Switchgrass N-rate experiments at KBS. Perennial treatments include herbaceous perennials- switchgrass, miscanthus, grass mix, old field and prairie (G5,G6, G7, G9 and G10) and poplar trees (G8) . Annual treatments include continuous corn (G1), and during 2008-2011 corn-soybean–canola rotations (G2-G4). In 2012 ,G2-G4 treatments no longer planted canola and added cover crops to a corn-soy rotation. Agronomic yields are measured during normal crop harvest by machine harvesters appropriate to each crop as described in the GLBRC Agronomic Protocol.

GLBRC081-001 Agronomic Yield of Annual Crops; treatments 1 - 4
Agronomic yield from the 4 annual crop treatments. These treatments are part of the GLBRC Biofuel Cropping System Experiment located on the Arlington and KBS GLBRC Intensive sites. Yield is given at standard moisture for corn (15.5 %), soybean (13 %) and canola (8.5 %). In addition to yield data from the main part of the field, yield data from stover microplots is also given here. The stover microplots are generally on the east and west side of the main field, one side is the control (same as the main field) and the other side is an alternate stover treatment. Stover is removed on the main field and in the stover microplot controls and was not removed in the stover microplots. The stover microplot study was designed to provide experimental data on the impacts of stover removal in order to establish threshold levels of stover management. Starting in 2013, 1/3 of the stover microplot control was herbicided and the first yield was taken from these plots in 2014. Agronomic yields are measured during normal crop harvest by machine harvesters appropriate to each crop as described in the GLBRC Agronomic Protocol.
GLBRC081-002 Agronomic Yield of Perennial Crops ; treatments G5 - G10
Agronomic yield from the poplar trees and the 5 herbaceous perennial crops; switchgrass, miscanthus, mixed grasses, old field and native prairie. These treatments are part of the GLBRC Biofuel Cropping System Experiment located on the Arlington and KBS GLBRC Intensive sites. Yield data for these treatments are given as dry matter. Microplots were established on the perennial crops to look at the affects of fertilization on yield. Treatments G5, G6, G7, G8, G9 are normally fertilized so the microplot was unfertilized and G10 does not receive fertilizer so the G10 microplot was fertilized.
GLBRC081-003 Agronomic Yield in Switchgrass Nitrogen-Rate/Harvest Experiment
Agronomic yield record for the Switchgrass Nitrogen Experiment on the KBS GLBRC Intensive Site. From 2010 - 2012 a harvest experiment was carried as part of this experiment. One half of each plot was harvested in the summer and the fall (2 harvest strategy) and the other half of the plot was harvested in the fall only (one harvest strategy). As of May 2013, half of the plots (plots previously with 2 harvest strategy) are separated by a one-half meter deep aluminum barrier. See Switchgrass Nitrogen Experiment map for the details.
GLBRC081-004 Stover and Residual Stover Biomass and Cover Crop Yield
Corn stover (dried stalks and leaves remaining after grain harvest) and residual corn stover (remaining biomass after machine harvest of stover) dry matter yield are given here for KBS and Arlington GLBRC Biofuel Cropping System Experiment treatments G1-G4. Microplots were established to determine the efficacy of the stover harvesting machinery. Cover crops were added to treatments G2-G4 in 2013. Cover crop yield is also given in the data table.
GLBRC081-005 Stover Removal Experiment Grain Yield
Stover non-removal microplot grain yields are compared to control plot grain yields where stover is removed. This study was designed to provide experimental data on the impacts of stover removal in order to establish threshold levels of stover management.
GLBRC081-006 Unfertilized/Fertilized Yield Experiment
Microplots were established on the perennial crops to look at the affects of fertilization on yield. Treatments G5, G6, G7, G9 are normally fertilized so the microplot was unfertilized and G10 does not receive fertilizer so the G10 microplot was fertilized.
GLBRC081-007 Arlington Harvest Equipment
Equipment used to harvest the Arlington GLBRC Biofuel Cropping System Experiment and microplots. KBS harvest equipment and future Arlington harvest equipment are recorded in the GLBRC Agronomic Log .
GLBRC081-008 Agronomic Yield- GLBRC scaleup
Agronomic yield from the KBS GLBRC Scale-up fields at Lux Arbor Reserve and the Marshall Farm. Treatments were first applied in 2010; all fields were planted with soy in 2009. Stover was first harvested in 2015 and previously was not removed from M1 or L1.
GLBRC081-009 Agronomic Yields; all treatments and microplots
Agronomic yields from all the GLBRC treatments located on the Arlington and Kellogg Biological Station Intensive sites are presented here. Yield is given in multiple units including at standard moisture (grains only) and dry matter. In addition to yield data from the main section of the plots, yield data from two microplot experiments is also presented here: corn stover removal microplots and nitrogen microplots. The microplots are generally on the west side of the main field and the control microplots are on the opposite side of the field. Also, residual corn stover (remaining biomass after machine harvest of stover) data is given. Corn stover (dried stalks and leaves remaining after grain harvest) is removed on the main field and in the stover microplot controls and was not removed in the stover microplots.
